It was the soil temperature which was 85 degrees even down 10 inches. I
have been told by a friend that she planted tulips and daffodils deeper
than that in Messina, NY just to keep them from freezing. I have too
many rocks to plant a lot that deep. Some of the research was in
Southern Living several years ago. Sorry I don't have the research
available any more. I have moved on to the bulbs I can grow.
