Re: was red dragon now Painter's Palette
Hi Marilyn,
If I'm following things correctly, you're talking about Painter's Palette? If so, your earlier message said "(and to think I used to cut them off! no imagination!)". This is why you have no seedlings. I planted Painter's Palette late last year and I had quite a few seedlings pop up this year. (Same for Tovara virginiana and T. v. variegata.) I have many more of the tiny little flowers this year, so I should see many, many more seedlings next year. There is no magic to the soil. Mine are in ordinary, unamended, whoopie-do soil along the edge of the woods. If it's not too late, don't cut off those little red guys and see what happens next year. If you get too many seedlings, they are easy to pull, or do a partial deadheading.

Vivien, you must have magic soil. I have never had a seedling :( and could sure use some.
