I've grown pineapple lily (Eucomis comosa [punctata]) in the ground
over the years.  I'm in the cold end of z 7 in MD; not sure how this
relates to the part of z 7 you're in.

These are native to South Africa.  Seem to do OK for me in part sun
tho' some blasted something keeps cutting the foliage of my purple
leafed one off at ground level every summer...really annoying and I
can't figure out who is doing this.

They like good drainage from what I've seen; if in doubt about yours,
mulch well for winter.
