I'm late to this poppie thread but interested..I'm one
of the e-bay bidders who was sucked into buying a tsp
of poppy seed for $9.00. in fact I bought 2 lots! I
really wanted a mix of colors.
I planted twice last year-in fall and again in spring.
I didn't grow a single poppy and was greatly
disappointed as I was left with a large unplanted bed
waiting for weeds to take hold-they did.
I went ahead and put iris in this bed a week or so ago
but I'm still interested in poppy planting-I love
those big seed pods and want to do some dried
arrangements with them.
Marilyn, I'd like to hear your secret for getting
these babies to germinate here in the Willamette
Valley. I'm usually pretty good with seedlings and
did try to germinate poppy seeds in peat pots with
some success but they bit the dust when planted into
the garden.
As for "Pattys Plum" I was also very disappointed
with the color once I got it to bloom. It was a
pricey plant and sure not the color the ad indicated.
On one other note, I found a beautiful lemon, almost a
daffodil poppy at Territorial seeds down towards
Eugene...it was in their plant area, not the seed
rack. It grew like mad all summer and I loved having
the lemon/daff color all summer. I tried to save some
seeds and let others scatter at will-hope to have
volunteers next spring.
'Be well' and enjoy the fall
