The one that was in bloom already is called Prof. Kippenberg #2 - Aster
dumous x Aster novi-belgii. It is dark blue violet - small, pretty blooms.

The other one was not in bloom, so all I have to go on is the tag. It is
called Omega Sky Rocket Stokes Aster - Stokesia leavis. It is pictured with
frilly, light/medium blue flowers. The back of the tag says that it is an
"Atlantic Botanical Garden introduction. Selected from the wild population
in Georgia. A totally new look for Stokesia."

well you have two diffrent kinds of plants.
The Stokesia leavis should be hardy from zones 5-9 sometimes 4. There is onlu
the one species in the genus and it is native to conifourous woods that are
moist and acid. The plants are some what evergreen. Plants bloom from early/
midsummer to late summer. flowers are blue/purplish. Do not plant in heavy
wet soils but in an area that is well drained but moist. full sun. Mix in some
sand.
The flowers look some what like cornflowers and are good for cutting. Plants
grow from 12-24" tall and 12-16" wide.
Other selections of this plant include
"Silver moon" with whitish/silver flowers
"Blue Star" with large light blue flowers that have a whitish blue center.
"Blue Danude" with large mid blue flowers.

The Professor Kippenburg is a hybrid Aster with a novi-belgii blood.
lavender-blue semi double flowers on plants that grow 12-15" and 18-20" wide.
tall. Plants bloom in August-October.
this is a nice very popular selection hard in zones 4-8.
Grow in part shade to full sun in moist but well drained soil. Again like some
sand mixed into the soil. Plants grow into clumps and should be divided every
three years in the late spring.
