Re: Husk Tomatoes

Hi,

Years ago when I was a child my mother grew 'husk tomatoes' in the
veggie garden. They were small, about the size of a cranberry, yellow
and mild. They were totaly enclosed in the husk which became tan when
the berry was ripe. She then picked them and made preserves from them.
She also made regular perserves from red and yellow pear tomatoes.
Sometimes the 'husk' types were called ground cherries. I remember them
as good tasting but a little different.

One year I grew some but they were more the tomatillo type and were
quite large like a plum. The husk didn't entirely cover the berry. I
think there was also one that was milder and sweeter.
