Cliff, it's Colocasia esculenta, or taro.  If you have an Asian or Oriental
grocery store in your vicinity, just buy a taro root and plant that.
Voila!  Elephant ear! One of my friends treats it like an annual, and
doesn't bother to dig the bulb.  A new bulb costs about 50 cents at her
nearby Asian grocery store.  Margaret
