Re: Drabby fall gardens

Nan,
Sorry, I'm a beginner at shrubs. I only have three in my front bed,
1 Rhododenron,pruned into a tree form, 1 Caryopteris, and 1 Vitex
angus-castus. They all add interest to my "flowerbed" and I say that
because it was a flowerbed of only perennials, I wouldn't even put
annuals in there. Needless to say that come the fall it looked pretty
bleak. Now however, with the shrubs and container plantings it doesn't
look that bad, I still have bare spots (I do cut back whenever the
plants look bad), but I can live with that. I also have discovered
grasses and what I call lawn art. an old coal bucket, a wash board, a
carved stone and a little cement statue. It helps things even out.
