Busy?

Hi Dee Ann, Pat, Janice, Katie and all,
Yes, autumn is a busy, wonderful time. Lots of leaves to rake and
cleaning up to do. Then when the soil gets cold enough there is mulch to
spread. I have been working my way around the beds and rockery in the front
garden, finding sweet surprises as I go.
Lavatera 'Barnsley' is still blooming (it started in June) along
with Phygelius 'Pink Elf' and 'Moonraker'. The Japanese Anemones are at
their zenith. I particularly like the newer double white 'Whirlwind' and
the double pink 'Queen Charlotte'.
The hard working Gaura lindheimerii is still waving its white
butterflies in the wind looking very handsome next to some Korean Reed grass
(sorry lost the botanical name for this one), Pennisetum orientale and
Helicotrichon sempervirens (Blue Oat Grass).
Here and there some of the hardy Geraniums are putting on a little
late bloom while the flower heads on Sedum 'Autumn Joy' & Astilbes are
turning a wonderful rusty red.
On the shady, moist end of the rockery, I found a Helleborus
orientalis with 2 blooms just beginning to open. This is a new one I
planted early last spring that was labeled "yellow flower". I'll know in
another few days whether it is really yellow or if that was just wishful
thinking on someone's part. :)
In the north facing bed under the living room window pink Begonia
grandis (the hardy Begonia), purple spotted Tricyrtis (Toad Lily), Corydalis
'China Blue' and the huge variegated leaves of Brunnera 'Hadspen Cream'
carry on as though it was early September instead of late October.
So many gifts to be grateful for............Marilyn
