Re: Putting hostas to bed for winter

Renata:

I am in zone 4, and I never do anything with my hostas in the winter, except
if I am feeling ambitious, cut off the foliage once they have died back. If
I don't it comes up easily enough in the spring when I am raking leaves out
of the beds. We have reasonably good snow cover most of the winter but
usually there is a thaw in January that leaves the ground bare and is
followed by the coldest weather of the winter. Of course we also have a
nasty freeze thaw cycle in March. I can honestly say I have never lost a
hosta over winter yet, although they are so late emerging I often think I
have in spring.
