I'd be careful if using black plastic under brick. I know a lady who did
just this and most of her bricks cracked the first winter because the
plastic trapped the water, the water froze and cracked the bricks.
Weedblock lets the water filter throught it, thus preventing this problem.
You can use layers of newspapers. They will eventually rot and, yes, the
weeds will come back, but they will no matter what. I'd go for the
recycling.
