Re: Favorite Spring Perennials/ Hepatica
Hello Bob,
Hepaticas really are worth the trouble to locate. Once you have them in the
garden you will end up becoming a collector. I have been playing with these for a
few years now. Started with the two American species found in our local woods and
branched out from there. Then looked for the various bloom color selections. There
is an American Hepatica Assoc... not on the web. There are many European and Asian
species to look for as well.
If you are into seeds and a very patient individual you can obtain Hepatica by
growing your own. Seed is ephemeral and must not dry out before planting. I have
sever different species and forms on my web site seed listing each summer. Check
it out next year and let me hear from you.
Incidentally, I know the plants are available by catalog in Canada. Just keep
looking around. You will find several species for sale. And, you are right... they
are gaining in popularity... again. They have always been popular to collectors.
