oh, dear,...what can the matter be?

I have a plant that has been worrying me lately...This spring I planted a
daphne (don't have the name at hand right now, but it is the winter blooming
variety with white edged leaves). I was told that in our area it needed
shade to survive our summers. The spot where I planted it actually has
mid-day sun, but some shade the rest of the time, and it survived our nasty
heat and drought (which is still going on, by the way)... I did water it
about once a week, and it looked nice all summer. Suddenly, a couple of
weeks ago, it began to droop. The stems are still upright, but the leaves
are hanging down toward the ground. It looks like it needs water, but it
didn't perk up when I watered the bed.

Is this one of those "touchy" plants that is on its way out once it get too
dry; is this normal behavior during the change in seasons; do I need to try
and identify some pest or disease? The leaves are intact, no holes, not
turning brown...

Any help from the list would be greatly appreciated!
