Hello Joanie,
According to the RHS Encyclopedia, Crocosmia masoniorum is borderline hardy
to 5F. I understand that Zone 5a is -20 to -15F so it would seem unlikely
that it would survive. It is approximately 18" tall (although the book
says it grows to 4'). The flowers are a lovely orange. There were only
buds on the plant when I bought it about 8 weeks ago, so perhaps they had
held it back in the nursery and that is why it is flowering now; the RHS
Encyclopedia says that it flowers in mid-summer. (Of course, the plant
could have had the wrong label on it!) Apart from C. x crocosmiiflora
(which is very invasive) C. masoniorum is the hardiest listed.
