Well, Eva, I leave mine in the ground until the first frost nips the
air and then dig them. If days are still warm, you could leave them
for a while longer. Even in a large planter, the tubers and roots
are warmer than the air temperature. What they don't like is
extended cold. They have previously survived in my greenhouse which
gets in the low 40's in winter, but I keep them in the warmest spot,
which is probably more like 45- 50F. What killed mine was an
extended period of cold on the floor of the greenhouse before I had a
chance to sort out plants and put them where they should have been.
Of course, if you've already dug them, that's no problem. I think
they should do fine inside except for the dryness of the air, which
could encourage white fly or spider mite. If you want to grow it as
a houseplant, give it a sunny window and as much extra humidity as
you can.
They are supposed to root easily, but I haven't had much luck in that
dept.
