Marya,
Those plants forming on the scapes are called proliferations by the daylily experts. They will root up and eventually become new plants. I assumed Nan was referring to new fans at the base of the scape.

Nan -- Last year several of my plants did this (the offsets were up in the air, on the flower stalks, that's what you are referring to, right?) I didn't try it but I'd guess that cutting them off and potting them up would work, or even better, pinning down the stalk and covering the bottom part of the aerial plantlet with soil and keeping it watered until roots form, then cutting off the stalk. I am wondering if this is a response to stress? This year mine didn't do it but there was plenty of water up through blooming time. Marya zone 6I was out watering my daylilies this morning and noticed that on some of them, the flower stalks have formed baby plants at joints in the stalks. They look like offsets. I've never seen this before, is it common? And how do I treat the offsets to make them into full sized, rooted plants?--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PERENNIALS
