Buddleia (sp?)

I have 3 beautiful Buddleia Nanho Blue, with the most beautiful coloured
flowers and a lovely scent. I learned from recent postings that I should
prune them back in spring as opposed to fall, but what does everyone else
do with them while they're growing? Mine seem to grow straight out along
the ground instead of up. Do others use tomato cages? I wondered about
this since spring, when I planted them, but they didn't seem to want to
bend upward. The stems really come out of the ground almost horizontal.

Thanks for any help.
