I've always called cosmos and cleome *belligerent annuals* . . .they just
won't go away. But then, who wants them to?

I have orange, yellow, and orang-ish red cosmos blooming madly right now.
They are about 5 feet high with monster stems . . .and I planted them in
April . . . . . from seed. They were just a seed packet called (I think)
bright lights cosmos. They are splendid . . and the butterflies love
them.
