Nita,

The tropical hibiscus is not hardy in my zone (6a) and therefore he never
puts his outside to grow. They stay indoors here at work in pots, growing
to about 12" high. He says that it would be best to let them grow outside
during the summer, but he doesn't because he doesn't want to carry plants
back and forth to work.

I'm figuring that if yours are 4' tall, I would definitely not cut them
back so drastically. He leaves a small amount of foliage on his to
rejuvenate the plant when he cuts, so you may want to cut back yours only
about halfway.
