Re: Day lily
Pottsey,
The first year we were in Michigan, my husband's cousin gave me a whole
bunch of daylilies, in a plastic garbage bag. Since I didn't have the
time or the bed to put them in, I didn't do anything with them for about
a month, except keep them in the shade in the open bag and watered them
when I thought about it, then I just dumped them all into a temporary
bed to overwinter.
The following spring and summer, they were all foliage and no bloom. In
the fall, I replanted them (the right way) <G> in a bed I prepared for
them in full sun. This past summer, they all came up and bloomed, every
last one that I had transplanted.
Guess this just goes to show how hardy and un-picky day lilies are :-)
Since I'm sure you'll treat yours better than I did mine, yours should
do just fine. I would recommend getting them into the ground about 3
weeks or so before the ground freezes, however, so they have a chance to
prepare for winter.
Have fun!
