Lobelia gerardii

Jeanne:

Lobelia gerardii is a natural cross between L. cardinalis and L.
siphilitica and a first rate perennial. It is the glory of my garden
right now (a drift of about 60 plants here).

It should get 3-4 feet tall and is normally reddish or bluish-violet-
a lovely colour. It comes true from seed and flowers its first year.
Furthermore, as you mentioned it will grow from full sun to full
shade- I prefer mine in dappled shade and does not need the moisture
that red lobelia usually requires; so is culturally more like blue
lobelia. Hardy to at least Z4.
