I was looking around for help with a wild plant ID when I ran
across the website for this "nursery" called Flora by Nature.
It is apparently owned by someone named Scott Lowry and is based
in New Hampshire.
When I saw that he was selling Lady Slipper Orchids, blue cohosh
and a number of other plants, I sent him a note asking questions
about his nursery, his background and his propogation methods.
I suspected he was wild collecting. His response indicated that
he does. In fact, he stated that most of the plants he sells
are wild collected.
I'm posting this so that people are aware of him and I hope
people chose not to buy from him. Wild collecting is
irresponsible and most often it is illegal. After loss of
habitat, wild collecting is among the top ten reasons many
plants are threatened or endangered. As far as I'm concerned it
is absolutely unacceptable for someone to go into the woods,
meadows & bogs, remove plants and sell them. Please don't buy
from this guy.
