Tent caterpillars/web worms

I know this isn't really a perennial gardening problem, but I was hoping
anyone might know ways to keep Fall web worms (I'm told that's what I have
vs. tent caterpillars) from returning to my big old black walnut tree next
year (too late for this year!). They are making such a HUGE mess all over
my deck (little tiny pellets of worm poop everywhere!!), and when you sit
out at night, you can actually hear them chewing up the tree. Yuk! The
tree has been infested for the past 4 years, and I'm sick of it.
Fortunately, they don't kill the tree.

I'm hoping there's a way to keep them out of the tree next year, that
doesn't involve spraying high into the tree, because I have no idea how we
could spray that high, and I'm not crazy about pesticides anyway.

Thanks.
