Re: Goldenrod (was "Garden Illusion")
Hal,
Although I can't advise on non-invasive cultivars, I can tell you what I have
done to restrain my goldenrod--as well as two other of my favorite, but
horribly invasive, perennials, lysimachia punctata and lysimachia clethroides:
after thoroughly removing the unwanted runners, I pushed 25 cm high strips of
corrugated edging material (usually used to edge lawns) into the ground in
free-form, closed shapes where I wanted the plants to remain within. Since
the material is so flexible, it is possible to create a natural appearance.
The strips are invisible during the growing season, and while not 100%
fool-proof, it does reduce the containment-work considerably! Also works good
for mint.
