Holly-

I really appreciate your efforts. I am familiar with Crossandra - blooms are
similiar to a shrimp plant in shape but are more errect and general all one
color.

Well - I posted the pic to another list and they came up with Odontonema
strictum- my book has not pic to compare it with (that's my favorite way of
idenification :o)) but the description does fit - In winter bears tubular,
2-lipped, waxy crimson flowers, 1" long, in slender, erect, compact panicles,
to 12" long.

The other list is a "southern" focused list and I guess this plant is readily
grown in southern Louisiana and in parts of Florida....the strange thing is,
I've had this plant for 3 or 4 years (seasons) and I've seen it once at a
local nursery (and believe me - I go to the nurseries :o))

Funny how plants come in and out of fashion--I guess that is one of the
reasons for so many pass alongs - nurseries carry the "popular" plants for
5-7 years then they fade them out and if we didn't buy it when it was
"popular" it becomes hard to find and usually the best source becomes
someones garden...a long time gardener.

Thanks for your help - seems whenever I try to identiy something I learn alot
about various plants and I really love the challenge (but I still like the
pictures :o)).

Happy gardening
