Yes, Kris, where are you? I lost my mint when it was really hot and dry (as
it was much of the summer here. I think I planted it in early June, and it
was gone by mid-July.
Bill (and Kris), are you talking about pineapple sage or pineapple mint?
I've grown both; and the sage is looking pretty good right now, should start
blooming soon. It isn't hardy here (zone 7) either, but I have taken
cuttings of it in the fall. It does have gorgeous blooms.
The pineapple mint is a different animal. Has variegated green and white
leaves, crinkled, like other mints. And I don't seem to be able to keep it
alive. But I did manage long enough a couple of years ago to use some of
it; tastes lovely.
If I was really ambitious, I'd look up the botanical names of both, but that
would require getting up :-)
