Pasque Flower

I want to thank MJ Hatfield for the question she posed regarding the lack
of long-term survival of certain populations of Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla
patens) (a short-term perennial???) in portions of her native grassland
restoration site
in Iowa. And , in particular, to thank the person who responded to this
question (my apologies far not remembering who). I have experienced the
same as MJ Hatfield, i.e., this species flowered the first 2 years after
planting seeds but this spring (the 3rd year) has failed, to date, to
emerge in my restoration site in south-central Michigan. It was suggested
by the individual that responded to this question that this species cannot
tolerate excessive soil moisture for even short periods of time; conditions
that prevail where this species was planted on my site. Sounds like a
perfectly reasonable explanation; in the future I will plant this species
where drier soil conditions exist.
Again, many thanks!!
