I (actually my wife does the greenhouse propagation) have not had a problem
growing Liatris aspera, Liatris spicata, or Liatris pycnostachya in
germination flats. Actually we have had very good success with this. It is
just the seeding in a restoration that is tricky. I am beginning to think
that Liatris aspera is a bit more picky when it comes to soils. The remnants
that I have seen that have the L. aspera tend to be sandy soils. The main
site that I have been trying to seed it into is a well- drained sandy loam,
but maybe it isn't sandy enough. I don't know, but the potted plants that we
planted out on the same site are doing fantastic.
