prairie restoration in Michigan

We are doing a 26-acre tallgrass prairie restoration project on our own
land in south-central Michigan. This land is primarily clay and has for
years been planted in corn, soybeans and/or wheat. We plant 3 or 4 acres
each year, commencing 5 years ago. Our strategy is to plant a matrix of
warm-season grasses (i.e., Big Bluestem, Indian Grass and Switch Grass)
initially, with Roundup Ultra applied the preceeding and following spring
(April). This strategy has been successful in substantially reducing
unwanted grass and forb competition. We follow this with a fall seeding of
selected forbs (so far, this appears to be successful). This past year a
3-year old planting (to date, only warm-season grasses) has areas of
substantial Field Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis)! My question is.....has
anyone had any experience in eradicating this Eurasian weed??? Many thanks
in advance.
Sincerely, Cliff Welsch
