Re: Bromus control

SELECT herbicide is a grass only herbicide. however, it does not kill brome like  fescue. it will prevent the plant from making a seed head. i have noticed that it will at least give other species a chance to be more competitive and out grow the brome. another option is to mow or hay this time of the year and the warm seasoned and forbes have at least a better shot at getting light.. myself  i like to spray with select in early spring  giving the select a chance to work on the tender foliage. then i  burn a couple  weeks later           frank oberle

Hello, I’m new to this forum and hope that these types of questions are appropriate for this discussion list.

Does anyone have any experience with the control of Bromus japonicus/ unioloides? Or know of any authors/publications that have dealt with control of either one of these species? I do not have the option of controlled burns.

I’ve found an nice resource on the web from the Nature Conservancy (http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/esadocs/documnts/bromtec.html ) but it is only on B. tectorum. I do not want to make any broad assumptions on the biology or control of B. japonicus or unioloides although they are in the same genus.

Thank you,

HWI
