News from the home front

We are now 68 strong, although the list has been incredibly quiet over the
past weeks.

In part I would like to apologize for the lack of traffic on this list,
explain where things stand now, and pave the way for a great Midwestern
summer.

I no longer work for Wolfram Research, Inc., but instead moved to NCSA
across town. As with any new job, it's been a big timesink for the past
few weeks, but I'm getting up to speed now. On the bright side, I get
to play with supercomputers! :)

--- COPYRIGHTS -------------------------------------------------------

On a more serious note, there is an issue of copyrights on email messages.
The last message that I sent out claimed copyright assignment on all
message to Mallorn Computing. Believe it or not, this was a good thing
that needed to be done in response to some legal issues arising on other
mailing lists. The goal was to protect your messages (although you had
no way of knowing that I was protecting them) by blanketing them all
under a single ownership.

We now have a new, clear copyright policy that is visible on the mailing
list web page. In essence, all messages sent out retain all copyrights
from the authors, although permission is granted to Mallorn Computing to
make these publically available in the form of archives.

This letter is official notification that all copyrights on sent messages
are being assigned back to their original authors.

If anyone wants more details about the copyright situation and why that
action was taken, let me know and I'll embellish.

--- THE FUTURE -------------------------------------------------------

I would like each of you who hasn't introduced themselves to the list to
send a brief paragraph explaining your interest in prairies. In short,
why are you here? Nobody is going to talk with people that they don't
know anything about...

Spring is here, and the plants are starting to come up... I recognize
Oenethera missouriensis and Fragaria under the leaves and litter...
I thought I saw Filipendua too, but I'm not sure what it looks like
when first emerging... I'll know in the summer if I was right!

What are the reports on plants elsewhere?

Chris
