Re: riparian vegetation response summary

Doug,

    Concerning your CRP acres; is it a prairie *restoration* or a
prairie *reconstruction*? There's a big difference.
    When I planted my *reconstruction* in November 1996 there was no
cost share on the added expense of *ecotype* grass seed and no cost
share on forbs. NRCS paid about 10% of my total cost (which did not
include any cost for hand gathered seed). I believe that they now do
some cost share on some forbs.
    And CRP acres have different guidelines than riparian acres. The
riparian program allows for trees only.

Ps. The wait isn't nearly as bad as the wait for trees to grow. And I
had forbs blooming the first year, after being mowed off 6 times!
