Paul,
I received your note from Meredith Clebsch at Native Gardens. I'm not sure
how you feel about chemical use but we very sucessfully treated sericea
lespedeza with Garlon 4 last summer in one of our Natural Areas here in E
TN. This particular area has a "remnant" native grass/cedar glade habitat
that was being seriously invaded by sericea. As you know the Garlon will
not harm the grasses and we were careful with our spraying to avoid other
forbs, etc. The spray was conducted in late July. A recent check of the
area found the control to date very satisfying. I will continue to monitor
throughout the summer.
If you have any questions regarding rates, etc. please feel free to contact
me.

Subject: Sericea control in remnants
Prairie Enthusiasts,
I am searching for a reasonable method to control and/or eradicate
Sericea lespedeza from prairie remnants and I would like to know if
anyone has had experience with this. I realize this plant is a tough
customer, but I would like to hear anyone's advice for infestations in
sensitive communities. The particular scenario that I am faced with is
a small (<10 ac.) remnant with a small patch of Sericea starting in one
corner. Unfortunately, this patch is surrounded by a variety of
conservative forbs. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very
much.
