Re: Frost seeding


We've sowed prairie prairie plantings here on several cold, late 
autumn or early winter days over the last 8 years with great 
success. The results are comparable to sowing stratified seed in 
spring, i.e., generally more diverse and less dominated by the big 
grasses than spring sowings. Much better showings of Sporobolus 
heterolepis and sedges, as well as forbs. Based on this 
experience, I doubt I'll ever sow in spring again. Site preparation is 
essentailly the same.
