Re: Pests and Molds?


The golden orange insects are aphids...it is a specific aphid that likes
milkweeds...they cover my milkweeds each summer but they never seem to kill
them.  My Butterflyweeds come back each year despite the aphids.  If these
are in your backyard, you could spray them with some insecticidal soap
solution (available at your local nursery).  The Black-eyed Susans sound as
if they have some Powdery Mildew.  Mine have it, too, but, they are doing
well.  Some species are more susceptible to mildews than others.  Monarda
fistulosa (Wild Bergamot) will often also get mildew if the weather is
extremely humid or it is not planted in full sun.  It never kills it...just
looks unattractive later in the summer.  I would not do anything about
either of these things.
