Re: GPC Members....
Dan,
I think you meant to type GPC memebers in your original post. It seems as though it is very important to keep the two seperate as they can't seem to get along!!
Anyway, I would like to help answer your question about the possiblilty of a future weigh-off site in your area. When we, Indiana Pumpkin Growers Assoc., (IPGA) came in as a site last year, one of the first questions Hugh Wiberg ask me was how close we were to neighboring GPC sites. He went on to mention that the GPC, as a RULE OF THUMB, liked to keep the weigh-off sites at least 300 miles apart. As it turned out an Illinois site near us had just decided not to continue with the GPC in 1999 which allowed us the ability to join without any conflict. Your site and the Canfield,Ohio site were two of the sites closest to us at the time. Both were well over 300 miles from our site near Indianapolis.
If you and your local members have some concerns about this new site joining the GPC, I suggest you call Hugh directly. I have his number if you need it. He and his steering committee have 100% supportive of our group here in Indiana. A total class act, I must say.
Note: Hugh ask me just this week, in a phone conversation, how close we were to the possible new site in Minnesota. I believe he is just starting to research the matter. Now would be the perfect time to call.
Hope this helps everyone involved,
Brad Walters
