Port Elgin Pumpkinfest uses the World Rules established by the Guinness
World Record people for all Giant Vegetables. What good is a measurement of
a super growing effort if it is not accepted around the World. The same with
pumpkins and squash. The long gourd is measured by laying it on a flat table
surface with some paper underneath. A mark is placed at each end of the
fruit on the paper and a straight line measurement is taken. No part of the
stem is included. Cracks which may be open to the inside of the fruit are
allowed because the measurement is for length and not weight. Colour is not
a factor for gourds. Under no circumstances are the curves measured in a
gourd that is not straight. Dave McCallum
