You're talking about the "Queensland Blue" pumpkin named for Queensland
(northeastern Australia) and it's the best I know of for pumpkin soup. The skin
is blue-gray, it weighs about 10 pounds, it's rather flattish and the meat is
deep orange. I'd compare it to Waltham Butternut squash in taste. I tried to
grow some here in Maryland last year and it never came up. I suspect it
requires a warmer climate, although they say it's grown in Tasmania and on New
Zealand's south island. If I have any success this year, I will be happy to
share some seeds, but right now I only have a few.
