Ernest,
Don't know about Mason bees but went to a commercial pumpkin growers
seminar last year at Cornell Univ. There was a bee expert there who talked of
Squash Bees that are wild bees that do alot of pollinating and you never know
they are there. Apparently they are very early risers ( still dark) and pretty
much finish up by sunrise. We have a commercial bee keeper with about 20 hives
of regular honey bees nearby. Our biggest problem is temperatures above 90
degrees which stops pollination even if the bees are there. I don't know what
everyone else has noticed, but it seems to me that there are more bumble bees
around. You should be able to find a local bee keeper to help you out as long
as you are careful with your sprays.
