On the way to work this morning, i was thinking about the upcoming season,
and certain things i did last year that maybe i shouldn't have done, and
certain things i definately should have done. Then a thought occured to
me; how much is too much?, when dealing with fertilizer and water. I'm
wondering if you have a pumpkin that has a genetic predispostion for thick
walls (ie, ciliberto 697, Rocky's 879 and so on) if you could push it
harder with the fert. and h2o. Basically, if a pumpkin with normal, to
less than normal wall thickness will split open before a pumpkin with
thicker than normal wall thickness. Can a pumpkin with thick walls handle
more of the good stuff? Or is it immaterial? Of course, regardless, when
you push, you run the risk of a split, but i'm wondering if maybe the
thicker walled ones can handle a little more, enabling you to get a little
more at weighoff time.
thoughts anyone?
scott
