While the topic is very interesting I believe that their is NO air inside a
pumpkin.
Just because there is a space does not mean there is air in it when it is a
sealed "growing" fruit.
In my experience air is the enemy to the seed cavity and that the seed
cavity is indeed a void until a fatal crack or split occurs allowing air and
airborne bacteria inside promoting rot.
