Re: dumb newbie question

Adam,

Speaking from experience, .... I think it is due to the high heat that is causing your pumpkins to 'abort'.  I myself have lost everything this year (first time in 7 years) due to the extreme heat-wave that we have been having here in the NorthEast.  Pumpkins will not 'set' in very high temps.  To really hope to succeed, we need to get our plants to set pumpkins in early July to the 10th of July.  But, for you being in Florida it may be very difficult.

Subject: dumb newbie question

Hello

I'm new to this list and pumpkins in general - I have 3 plants that have about 10 feet of vine but every time I get a pumpkin started (what I think is a pumpkin) - it gets to about golf ball size and then starts to get dark yellow and soft - turns to mush a few days later. Last year ( my 1st year ) I grew 3 to about basketball size with little effort. All were regular store bought seeds.

This time - I have 1 store bought seed plant and 2 that I got off E-bay that claim to be Atlantic Giants but each of those 2 is basically 1 long vine, the leaves near the base are all dying, and the rest never develops.

I'm n Florida so the sand (aka dirt) is not good - but I tried using a lot on black cow brand manure around the area.

Any ideas or tips??

Thanks in advance

Adam
