ya i think he misunderstood. he knows the female but doesnt know the male for sure. I dont know what plant he grew the 654 on. But you dont name the plant after the pumpkin you have growing on it the name of the plant stays the same. i hope that helps im getting a little confused now too.

grew to become the Troy 654, and Bob Troy replied that it had been
open-pollinated. In other words, if I understand it correctly, the
father of the Troy 654 seeds is unknown but we know that the mother is
the Troy 654.
