pumpkin patch disaster

List,
I have had a problem with bugs and leaves turning brown each year and was hoping someone here might be able to identify the problem and/or a possible solution. Also, I felt my stump a few days back and it was just mush. Is this from disease, poor drainage? Thanks for all your help in advance.
