split baby
I went out to the patch this morning @ about 5:30AM to do some
pollinating. I discovered that my 10 day old 659 Troy 03 pumpkin had
split along its equator. It was about volleyball sized, and perfectly
spherical. This surprised me because I havent used any ferts, and
watering has been regulated by an automatic timer, not to mention the
overall healthful look of the plant and fruit. I was able to self
pollinate another pumpkin about 2 feet further up on the vine yesterday
(August 3), so I still expect to have a nice pumpkin with desirable
seeds, but Im worried now about the why? question
What made my youngster blow up at only 10 days old? I want to avoid
this happening again if possible.
Has this happened to any of you folks? Any input is appreciated. Thank
You!
