Thanks to everyone's advice...the 3 biggest pumpkins that are set are
growing madly! The first one is now bigger than a soccer ball at 8 days old
and growing every day. Others are keeping pace though both are a bit
smaller. I am about ready to start thinning off some of the other ones that
the bees pollinated. I found a HUGE flower saturday with a 12 lobe center
and couldn't resist pollinating it just in hopes it might turn out something
huge. There is already one on the vine although it is only 6 feet from the
base but it is nearly soccerball size. This one is on the same vine out 15
feet...which might be better after all. It will be interesting to see.
Does anyone switch fertilizers after fruit set to something with lower
nitrogen and higher potash, potassium and magnesium? Advice please, for a
first time grower. Also, how much is TOO much water during this hot
weather? Thanks for the help and it is sure fun reading all the e-mails
about pumpkins!
