My sad experience from last year -
When I saw a stem split developing, I tried wrapping the
pumpkin with yards of duct tape, masking tape, whatever I
could find, in a vain attempt at preventing the expansion,
but nothing held.
Once the split opened into the cavity, I stuffed the crack
with fibreglass soaked in a Captan solution, and even used a
spray bottle to spray inside the hole. Again, to no avail -
once the air got in, that was it - the pumpkin had gotten
rotten on the bottom and I could'nt move it.
With a potential rib split, maybe you could wrap the pumpkin
with wire, or maybe even a chain? Anyone else have ideas on
this?
