Bill,
I do not think overwatering or overfertilizing was the cause, as most
growers on this list, when going over seeds for the year to come check
out deep ribbing as a factor(negative one). Ribbing in a genetically
passed trait through the parents of the pumpkin. Although my squash from
the 815 doesnt even have a rib yet, I know that the 697 of Tony
Cilaberto was deep ribbed )look in Langevin II on page 31 for Tony's
offspring of the 697), and so was the 1006 of Bill Greer(a 697
offspring, and also deep ribbed page 18, lower right part of pumpkin
pictured... real deep rib there). Although these ribs can sometimes be
fatal, I would risk it all with this seed background, because most make
it, and all have such thick walls coming from the 697, the weight is
worth gambling on those ribs..
Gimme a six pack and 5 months, and Ill show you one hell of a
pumpkin..... Or a squash... heehee
