Bill,
I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but the split or crack in the
deep rib is not good news. Usually it is the intersection of an internal crack
and the deep rib. If air and other associated fungi have entered the crack,
that one will eventually go down. If you have caught it early enough, you can
put some soft grafting wax in the hole and hope for the best. The wax will
have to be removed before the weighoff.
