	Hello George,
We have suffered this "stump rot" condition many times over
the years. In fact, two of our plants had it this year. We sent one of
the stumps to the Univerisity of Cal at Davis for inspection and
diagnosis. No Fungus was found. We think that overhead watering causes
the vines or stumps to get a split, which then lets soil into the wound
and then???Rot, fermentation and death.....we have never been able to
save one of these rotted plants before. We are looking for a way to
change our watering program. At this point we are covering the main
stump with a plastic cover while watering overhead. Our remaining two
plants have not had this rotting condition using the stump covering
method. Good luck, cindi and pete glasier

Do you have your plants on mounds ? Would it make any difference ?
